Hannah & Dian- Artful Colorado Engagement Photos

A Documentary Approach to Colorado Engagement Pictures.

Living in Colorado Springs we have beauty all around us and available to us. With that- there are so many photo op opportunities. Everyone is a Photographer these days. We all have a phone, social media, and plenty of platforms to post on. However- not all photos move you to feel something. Hannah & Dian reached out about Engagement Photos in Colorado Springs. When they emailed I could immediately tell that they understood the art behind photography. We traded inspiration pictures, chatted about adding on film and at the end of the day we truly collaborated together. Why does this matter? Why is a documentary style to photography beneficial?

  1. Unposed photos gather the true story

  2. It’s honest-You feel the real connection

  3. It shows the true Collaboration between the Photographer & Client

When someone asks what type of Photography I do I just say that I do the type where I can grow with my clients. Not specializing. I like to tell the story of what season people are in. Why pose people in a position that they do not actually feel is true to them? I want to deliver photos that clients can look at, print and then talk about years and years down the road. It shows the progression in time they can truly cherish. Being a Colorado Springs Photographer beauty is endless in our locations for sessions but honestly at the end of the day sometimes all I want is to be in peoples homes and get messy in their environment. The.True.Story. Hannah & Dian were definitely on the same page as me when it came down to not wanting staged or posed, we just had fun.

Why be a documentary photographer? Because at the end of the day, I look at the end result photos and feel like they are honest to what the real connection was between my clients. Hannah & Dian had a warm vibe to them, they felt connected to one another, kind to one another. This translated into the end product of photos where for example, Dian is laying in Hannah’s lap and she is touching his hair. It draws you in to deeper emotions than say if they were just standing side by side and both smiling at the camera. There is loss in overlooking the expressions people have towards each other. Another deeper example of this is when you go to the Met Museum and look at their Early Documentary Photography- highlighting hard moments in time like war, ugly history and the things people endured. https://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/edph/hd_edph.htm This all provokes emotion- it draws you in to the real emotions and connections of people.

As I mentioned- My clients and I collaborated from the get go. This made is so much easier to create together on the day of the shoot and have more fun playing around with different posing. This Artful play is what I feel like also creates great images. We are free to express- free to possibly make a “weird” scene that turns out cool 9 times out of 10. Collaboration vs Taking Control over the exact movements creates vibe, and in turn a partnership between Client and Worker.

In Conclusion, Why choose a Documentary Style Photographer like Laura Rachelle Photography? Because you gather the true story when you are unposed, It is honest, and you can feel the real connection, and lastly because it shows a true collaboration between the Photographer and Client and in turn creates better images.
